Cadet - Overview

* Cadets once onboarded and passed Class one firearm training will be covered to carry a Class 1 Firearm when on duty. Once this is complete cadets can begin to ride alongs. Academy is not a requirement of starting ride alongs.

* Cadets have 6 practical assessments and 1 theory assessment to pass in order to become an officer. They will require 75% overall to pass.

* Cadets can ride along with anyone of officer and above but should seek out FTOs where possible.

* Cadets should 311 or wait for clear radio comms to ask for a ride along from the VPD motor pool.

* Cadets cannot be on duty alone until they are cleared for Solo

* Cadets must complete a field based assessment with an FTI before being cleared for solo which can be done after they complete their 6 practical modules.

* When a cadet has reached their solo phase, they are required to complete a minimum of one shift before attempting the theory assessment.

* Solo Cadets can be on duty alone, however it is advised that they be cautious on attending actives and remember their safety is the most important thing.

* Once you are a solo cadet you can ride alone in a torrence. This period should be an opportunity for you to grow in confidence as an officer but you should be mindful to still push to get signed off on assessment.
