Radio

It is important a cadet understands the purpose radio communication has in a day-to-day work of an officer. An introduction to very basic 10 codes will be needed so they are able to understand the radio chatter. These include:

  • 10-41 (on duty)

  • 10-42 (off duty)

  • 10-4 (acknowledgement)

  • 10-7 (out of service)

  • 10-8 (in service)

They should also be introduced to the radio dispatch system that is used.

For example, 201 [202] Surname [CRU] 10-8

And the important role this has, allowing all units on duty to know who they are working with and what units they have available if they require them.

Cadets should also be talked through the different radio channels that are used and their purpose: For example:

  • Channel 1, PD main

  • Channel 2,3,4 where actives are moved to

  • Channel 91.1, training channels

  • Channel 6 – 10, EMS channels
