Traffic Stop

Carrying out a traffic stop safely and knowing correct procedures.

- Radio communication – Calling the 10-38, road name and cardinal direction, car description, number of occupants inside the vehicle, request for additional 77s (if needed). 30%

- Positioning car/ officers – Ensure the vehicle is facing the car in the correct way, as well as officer positioning when making contact with suspects. (B pillar/ C pillar based on occupant number). 20%

- Communication with suspect – Ability to communicate and explain the situation with suspect, fine or warn the suspect if necessary. 30%

- Necessary checks – Checking the owner of the vehicle and collecting the registration papers/ and license of the driver. 10%

- Call if a 10-80 starts or Code 4 when complete – If the suspect drives off radioing the start of the 10-80 or calling Code 4 when the traffic stop is complete. 10%
